WHAT IS A SINGING BIRD???

We specialize in Swiss, Bontems, older Griesbaum, and vintage Reuge singing bird cages,
there is a waiting list for the older and rarer pieces (which don't make it to the website).
So if you are interested in a rare piece please let us know and we'll add you to the lists.

Each of our cages has been professionally restored to working condition as needed. We
clean lightly each piece under the assumption that the eventual owner can always clean
further, but it takes decades to add back the patina once removed.

All of our antique items come with a 1 year warantee. If it doesn't work properly during
the first year (under normal use), simply return it to us and we'll fix it free of charge.

Griesbaum Smaller Cage with Custom Song and Flocking

This original design smaller Griesbaum Singing Bird Cage Automaton was a popular style, though an abbreviated song. Our creative restorer converted this to a full traditional Griesbaum song, did bold flocking to match the traditional Griesbaum bird color and we added a dome for protection and dust free living. A special and unique piece -- and yes, we can do any color scheme for you designers out there.

*Mid 1900s French-Style Singing Bird Cage Automaton*


	This high quality singing bird automata is made in the French style but is likely japanese. Circa 1950, and unlike the many low quality Japanese cages that came later, this one is made very well. Restored to original condition. Single yellow bird is original, fully functional and strong singer. Bird cage floor fabric needed replacing but we did a match to the original.

				We always get asked about our favourites of the small bird cages -- this style is it. These French Bontems cages were the model for early Griesbaum and ultimately became the enduring Reuge design as well. The song is clear and strong. The cage and bird all original. Thick feathering on yellow bird, great overall condition. Faded floor was originally green now more of a light blue/gray. 11"x6"

Bontems c. 1890 Jardinere with Singing Bird Automaton

Excellent and rare late 1800s Bontems Jardinere with singing bird automaton. This piece is in the original porcelain cache pot or vase (very slight crack only visible inside vase) and has the professionally restored original mechanism. The bird body is also original but the feathers and the foliage were redone to match the original design. Comes with protective dome and wood base. Approximately 21" high, dome is 15" x 24"

*1800s Wood Base Single Bird Automaton - all original*


		Late 1800s Wooden Base Single Bird Automaton with coin drawer and unusual song. This all original bird feathering is in remarkably good shape. We cleaned and restored the mechanicals and were able to get full functionality in the bird again without opening him. Unusual song, likely originally a coin op machine with coin slot removed. ~21" tall fully operational.

			c1980 Reuge reproduction of Bontems classic design (Reuge purchased Bontems in the mid-1900s). Three finely feathered animated birds in tall gold base cage (wood with gesso designs). Unusual electric version sings very loud and strong intermittent song when plugged in and turned on. Mint. Fully cleaned and checked. 23" tall by 14"x11"

			This wonderful, large French c1900 double singing bird cage is a Bontems. The case is made of of brass. The two brightly coloured birds (one red sitting on a perch with foliage and the other yellow on the base) sing to each other in turn and as they sing they move their heads, open and shut their beaks and flap their tails. Fully operational to original quality. 22" x 10" diameter.

Reuge Vintage 2 Bird Cage with Clock

Unusual Reuge Singing Bird Automaton with working clock and 2 birds. This rarely seen model was an homage to the 1800s french and swiss clock automata with birds. Reuge produced this piece in the last half of the 1900s. The bird on the perch is much larger than the typical bird. 11" tall, battery operated.
