| Movement and case by German artisans in the early 1900s. Griesbaum didn't produce singing bird items until after 1910 so all are "20th century" pieces. A couple of us old-timers had a lively debate about this box. It was almost certainly French or Swiss until we got deep into the restoration. But this is a very unusual early German -- a clear path to the Griesbaum more modern movement but not the same. It is lovely in its detail and operation and we love its uniqueness. Please be careful to check the background and provenance of all bird boxes for authenticity. This particular bird box automaton is original with 1 year warranty since we serviced it. It will last for generations. One of our favorite designs. Timeless... |
